Update from our Chair of Trustees

In the summer term we shared CEO Dave Watson’s intention to retire at Christmas this year. Due to personal family circumstances, Dave has stepped down earlier than planned and will not be returning to the Trust for the autumn term.

Dave has made a significant contribution to SAST during his time as Chief Executive, providing dedicated and committed leadership and helping to strengthen the Trust both financially and educationally. His stewardship has helped position SAST strongly for the future.

On behalf of the Trust Board, Chair of Trustees David Middleton said:

“We are extremely grateful to Dave for his dedication, commitment and leadership over the past several years. He has made a lasting contribution to SAST and to the schools, pupils and communities we serve. We wish Dave and his family every happiness and success for the future.”

The Trust Board has put arrangements in place to ensure continuity of leadership. Paul Lavis has been appointed as Acting Chief Executive Officer for the next year, providing stability. A recruitment process for a permanent Chief Executive will take place in 2027. In the meantime, the Trust will continue to focus on supporting its schools, pupils and staff and building on the positive progress made across SAST.

David Middleton added:

“SAST is in a strong position, and we have a great deal to be positive about as we begin the new academic year. This period of transition provides an opportunity to build on the progress we have made and ensure we are well placed for the future. I would like to wish Paul every success in his new role and thank all our colleagues for their continued commitment to SAST and to the children and young people we serve.”
