GCSE Celebrations at The Gryphon School

After the turmoil surrounding the awarding of exam grades this summer the staff, governors and students at The Gryphon School are celebrating another set of excellent exams grades.  34 students achieved straight 7s, 8s and 9s (the equivalent of the “old” A and A*).  Many students are staying on to attend The Gryphon Sixth Form and we would like to reassure those students waiting for BTEC results that their places are secure.

Steve Fox, Head of Year 11 said “After such a traumatic and shocking end to their GCSE studies these results reflect the hard work and effort that the students put in and it has been wonderful to see their delight that they have been rewarded with such superb grades.  I look forward to hearing about their continuing successes in The Gryphon Sixth Form and elsewhere.”

Nicki Edwards, Headteacher,  said “We are very relieved that the flawed initial process for grading A levels courses was replaced and a much fairer system was used for A level and GCSE grades as a result.  I would like to thank our local MP, Chris Loder, who worked tirelessly on behalf of the school and students across West Dorset to bring our concerns to the attention of the Department for Education.  We have truly seen democracy in action.  I am delighted with our results this year and wish all of our Year 11 students the very best as they take their next steps.”

As ever we have seen some outstanding achievements by students. One student achieved a phenomenal 14 grade 9’s!

Ruby C-W. got nine grade 9’s and said ‘I’m ecstatic, this is the best I could have hoped for. I’m staying for Sixth Form and will be studying Ancient History, 3D Design and Biology”.

Emily B was awarded seven grade 9’s and said “I am extremely happy, my results were better than I expected and I am happy with how it has all worked out. I’m going on to Gryphon Sixth Form to study Maths, Physics, Philosophy & Ethics and English Literature and I am so excited to be starting there in September.”

Student Bella W received nine grade 9’s and said “I’m really, really happy today! I am really looking forward to getting back to class, and I’ll be studying Spanish, Biology and either English Literature or History at The Gryphon”.

Student Caitlin T who got nine grade 9’s said “I’m happy and this is a big relief. I’m looking forward to going on to study Maths, Chemistry and Physics”.
