Ofsted praises Sherborne Abbey Primary’s ‘aspirational culture’

Staff at Sherborne Abbey CE Primary School are delighted after receiving a ‘Good’ inspection rating, with Ofsted praising it as an “inclusive and welcoming school” and a “happy place for pupils and staff to be”.

Ofsted praised leaders’ efforts, highlighting that they “share a passion for every pupil to do as well as they can, both socially and academically”. They went on to say that leaders have placed reading at the heart of the curriculum, and “inspire them to read for pleasure” whilst encouraging the development of a lifelong love of reading.

Pupils showed inspectors how they take pride in sharing their achievements and that they live the school’s Christian values of kindness and respect, telling them “What matters most is in the inside”. They know “the importance of teamwork and helping each other” and the school helps pupils become “well-rounded and caring individuals”.

The extra-curricular opportunities were also commended with opportunities for pupils to take part in a wide range of clubs, including drama and sports, as well as inspiring school trips and visits.

Headteacher Ann Marie Kampf said: “I am extremely proud and privileged to be the headteacher of Sherborne Abbey CE Primary School. Our children here are amazing and a credit to us all; parents, grandparents, staff and our wider Sherborne community.  My staff’s dedication- ‘going beyond what is normally expected of school staff’, their knowledge and their commitment to the children they teach each day was remarked upon and highly praised. It has been a real pleasure for myself, Mr Howells (Deputy Head), all the staff and the children to have had this recognised by Ofsted.”

Sherborne Abbey CE Primary is part of SAST, a multi-academy trust with 17 schools across Dorset and South Somerset. Colin Sinclair, SAST CEO said “Congratulations to our team at Sherborne Abbey Primary – this glowing inspection report demonstrates the excellent standard of education being delivered to children, as well as the holistic approach to pupil development that we value highly as a Trust. To receive such praise, whilst in the midst of a pandemic, shows the dedication and commitment of Ann Marie and her team and how they truly put the children first in all that they do”.
