Gryphon students celebrate A level success

The Gryphon Sixth Form is pleased to report some outstanding achievements by its students in their A levels this summer.

The vast majority of students got places at the first-choice universities, whilst others are going into other training routes and employment. Manuel Baby achieved a fantastic 5 A* and is going on to study medicine at Imperial College London. He said “I am very pleased with my results and I have worked really hard to achieve them”. This follows Manuel receiving 13 A* at GCSEs two years ago, some of the highest results in the country.

Katie Holland achieved 3 A* and will be heading to Oxford University to study Biomedical Science. She said “I didn’t really know what to expect with my results, but I’m incredibly excited and happy today”.

Jonah Hawksley received 5 A*, and will be taking a gap year to go travelling before going to the University of Leeds to study International Relations. He said “I’m very happy, and probably relieved more than anything!”

The Gryphon Sixth Form has five students heading to Oxford and Cambridge this year, and five students going on to study medicine.

This year, following the cancellation of exams, grades were awarded through a process of teacher assessed grades, against a national standard and approved and awarded by the exam boards. The government is not publishing performance data for any schools or colleges this year due to the varying impact of the pandemic.

Head of Sixth Form, Paul O’Donnell said “We are incredibly proud of the achievements of our students, especially after such a difficult and disrupted couple of years. They have shown amazing resilience and determination, and we are excited to see what they will achieve in the future.”
