Gryphon Sixth Form Students Celebrate Excellent Results
The Gryphon Sixth Form in Sherborne is celebrating after students received an excellent set of A level results today. 19 students received straight A and A* results and Gryphon students will now head off to places at Oxford, Cambridge and other universities across the UK and in the USA.
Paul O’Donnell, Head of Sixth Form, said “We are so proud of the way our students coped with having their A level studies cut short and the pressure that that put upon them as they waited for their results today. They are a great group of young people who alongside their studies did a great deal to support their local community and each other through some very tough times. We are looking forward to hearing from them as they take their next steps, whether that is at university, a gap year, or on to apprenticeships or employment.”
Nicki Edwards, Headteacher, said “This truly has been unprecedented times and we are very relieved that the awarding process has allowed the vast majority of our Sixth Formers to take up the university places they had hoped for. For those students who have been adversely affected by the system used to allocate grades we will support them, wherever possible, in seeking to make appeals or to sit the exams in the autumn term. Every grade gained today is a result of the hard work of these remarkable young people over the past two years and the support they have been given by our exceptionally dedicated team of teachers.”
Student Ali Macey received A* grades in Maths and Further Maths, and A’s in Chemistry and Biology, and will now head to university in California. He said “It’s been a strange year, but I’m pleased to have got the grades I needed for university. I’m really excited about studying in the US”.

She said “I’m very relieved and happy, but feel sorry for some friends who didn’t get the grades they were hoping for. It’s a relief that it’s all over after months of uncertainty”.
