New defibrillator and first aid training for students thanks to Toyota
Children at St Andrew’s CE Primary School in Yetminster have received first aid training and a new defibrillator has been installed on-site thanks to a grant from Toyota. All children in KS2 learnt first aid over a two-day course, including how to put someone in the recovery position, how to treat a wound, tie a sling and bandage and how to administer an epi-pen. They were also shown how to use the new defibrillator which has been installed in the student reception. Staff at the school have also been fully trained on how to use the new device.
Local residents Natalie and Jason Lafferty both work for Toyota and applied for the grant from a scheme that the company runs to benefit local communities.
Headteacher Julie Simpson said “We are delighted to now have this defibrillator at our school, and we are incredibly grateful for the grant that has allowed us to train all of our KS2 pupils in first aid – they now have the confidence to deal with a situation should it arise, and these skills are invaluable”.
